Drs. Enoch Wan and Sadiri Joy Tira have been on the leading edge of helping the Church understand the realities and opportunities for mission brought about by global migrations (search this blog using their names for some interviews with them). They recently spoke at Cape Town 2010 on the topic of diaspora missiology. Their presentations are posted below. Also, you can find a copy of the pdf “Scattered to Gather” that was distributed in Cape Town, HERE.
I strongly want to encourage my U. S., Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, South African, and western European readers to watch these videos. I am presently writing a book on such migrations to the traditionally western contexts and recognize that such global migrations–especially of some of the world’s unreached people groups–are having and will continue to have great impact on mission in our countries. Some of this migration poses great challenges but always great opportunities for the advancement of the gospel across the West and throughout the world. I believe these videos from Cape Town will assist our thinking on migrations and mission in the West (and from the West).
In Part 2, Dr. Enoch Wan addresses the audience on the topic of diaspora missiology. It should be noted that according to Dr. Tira (see next video), that Dr. T. V. Thomas actually offered Part 1 of the presentation on diaspora. Unfortunately, at the time of this post, I have not been able to locate Dr. Thomas’ presentation on the Cape Town 2010 web site.
In Part 3, Dr. Joy Tira continues the presentation on the topic, providing some contemporary examples of what is happening in the world of diaspora missions.
In this final post, Dr. T. V. Thomas moderates a question and answer session related to the previous presentations.
