Os Guiness gave a presentation titled, “Truth-Why Truth Matters” at Cape Town 2010. His warning to the Church is very clear when he stated: “Those Christians who are careless about truth are as wrong, and as foolish, and as dangerous, as the worst skeptics and scoffers of our time.” I completely agree with him on this statement. He also reminds us “To abandon truth is to abandon faithfulness, and to commit theological adultery, and to end in spiritual suicide.”
The Church needs to hear and heed these words.
I would add to Guiness’ presentation: If we compromise on the truth of Scripture, then the demise of calling people to repentance, faith, hope, healing, and abundant life in the one who claimed to be “the way,” “the truth,” and “the life” (John 14:6), has begun.
As goes truth, as goes mission.
