Evangelicals often talk about church planting. However, given the way most people speak about church planting and apply such methods to the field, I wonder if a great deal of evangelicals either prefer to avoid biblical guidelines when it comes to this ministry or simply do not know of the biblical origin of local churches. Or, maybe it’s a little of both. Or, maybe something else. There is little biblical support for what evangelicals often expect. What is described in the Word is exceptional to the evangelical mind.
May our expectations become exceptions, and biblical exceptions become our expectations.
Here is sermon I recently preached to The Church at Brook Hills. I share what we as a church are striving toward in our church planting labors in Birmingham, across North America, and throughout the world. We do not have it all figured out. We are striving.
In this message, which is part of a larger series through the book of Acts, we study Acts 11:19-30 and get a picture of what is biblical church planting, what is the local church, and how churches should come into existence.
If you do not wish to watch, HERE is the audio. Also, you may find the congregation’s notes HERE as well as a small group discussion guide HERE. I reference three in-house slides too: Map with Antioch, Near-Distant Culture, and Pathway to Planting.
Hey brother,
This morning I watched your teaching and shared it with several men I am working with. I really appreciate your faithfulness. Thank you.
