The stewardship of innovation includes an awareness of reality. Therefore leading for innovation requires an awareness of concerns among members of churches and organizations. Here is my list of nine beliefs that keep evangelicals from valuing innovation.
1) Innovation is unbiblical – The first disciples did not innovate.
2) We do not like change.
3) Innovation involves too much risk (i.e., too costly).
4) Our methods are sacred and should not be adjusted.
5) Our methods are best and cannot be improved.
6) We fought long and hard for today’s status quo and are tired.
7) Innovation is a human-centered approach to ministry that omits the Spirit.
8) If we change, someone will get offended.
9) We are not in the business of creating a new iPhone or a reusable rocket — Let Apple and Space X innovate.
