I think I have been a member of the Evangelical Missiological Society for 24 years.
In 1988, Donald McGavran extended a challenge to David Hesselgrave to start an evangelical, missiological, academic society to address contemporary issues related to the advancement of the gospel throughout the world. Missiology had morphed to a degree that the apostolic priority of the Church had been relegated into a room of a variety of excellent tasks–with none more urgent than others.
“What is really needed in North America and around the world is a society of missiology that says quite frankly that the purpose of missiology is to carry out the Great Commission.” — Donald McGavran
The purpose statement of EMS is to advance the cause of world evangelization through study and evaluation of mission concepts and strategies from a biblical perspective with a view to commending sound mission theory and practice to churches, mission agencies, and the schools of missionary training around the world.
Each year, we gather around a specific theme. Various regions hear presentations of original research on the theme. In October, we gather for our national meeting.
I am proud to announce this year’s Southeast Regional meeting will be Saturday, March 25 and held at Beeson Divinity School on Samford University‘s campus in Birmingham, Alabama. Dr. David Cashin will be our plenary speaker, followed by 21 paper presentations. See the schedule HERE. If you are in the region, I hope you register HERE and join us.
Of course, if you are not in the Southeastern United States, a region exists for you–including a global region. HERE is the list of the regions (under Conferences).
There are many benefits to being a member of EMS. See HERE for how to join.

Hope to see you on March 25–or at the national meeting in October!
